Situated in Lake and Cook counties in the state of Illinois, Buffalo Grove is a village within the northern suburbs of Chicago. Incorporated in 1958 and named after its founder Buffalo Creek, it has an estimated population of more than 41,200 residents and is widely regarded as one of the best communities in Illinois.
Buffalo Grove, as of today, is largely developed with one quarter of its 9.2 square miles reserved for parks and nature preserves. Moreover, according to the town’s Comprehensive Plan, the community is projected to ultimately reach over 100 times it original size, with the population surpassing 48,000 residents.
Besides offering great living conditions and world-class facilities, Buffalo Grove also presents an array of opportunities for exploration. The Raupp Museum is the village’s museum of local history and is operated by the Buffalo Grove Park District. Saint Mary’s Church is the oldest building in Buffalo Grove and was constructed in 1899.
Housed in the second oldest building of the village is Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria, which offers traditional style Chicago pizza. Also, located in the same downtown area is the Buffalo Grove Town Center, a major retail and shopping destination in the village. The Buffalo Grove Theater, on the other hand, is a popular spot for corporate events and parties.
The Buffalo Park District is responsible for the maintenance of 50 park sites, including Alcott Center, Spray ‘N Play, Emmerich Park Recreational Building and Maintenance Facility, Gold and Sports Center, Aquadome Indoor Pool as well as Willow Stream Outdoor Pool, among various others that provide residents with a full range of services and activities all year round.
There are also 50 miles of trails and path for jogging, walking, biking and roller blading in the village of Buffalo Grove. Special events like Tots in the Parks, National Night Out, and Lawn Chair Lyrics are also held throughout the year. The roads in Buffalo are well maintained and residents have easy access to the Southern and Western Suburbs as well as Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The community is also renowned for its education, with three high school districts and four school districts serving the community.
